Big toys for big boys and girls. The point of the race is to see who can get to the checkered flag first without wrecking.

With all of the drug scandals, women beating, knocking 10girls up in a weekend, dog fighting, strikes/lockouts, etc in other sports, NASCAR hasn't had to deal with this crap. Those things are all turn offs to fans. You test positive for anything banned by NASCAR, you're GONE. You HAVE to go through THEIR rehab program and be subjected to tests whenever they say or you're banned for life. They don't give second chances. They can't afford to in their sport. You can kill dozens of people. Even if one isn't a fan, you do have to give them credit for the absolute zero policy. If baseball took a stance like this, they'd gain fans and probably have someone inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

The squabbles over pay - strikes, lockouts, etc - are such bull. Hard to have ANY sympathy for someone who's making $20 mill over 5 years. It's a TOTAL turn off. The egos are as big as the stadiums.

Going by this thread it seems one reason for NASCAR is to give F1 fans something to feel superior to.

Another is to give rally fans something to sneer at.

And then you have fans of off-road racing...

This is an old saying,

In NASCAR the fans know the names of all the drivers.

In off road racing the drivers know all the fans.

Alonzo Boden (the comedian) explains Nascar the best in his act:

"I never understood Nascar, shiny, brightly colored cars driving in circles"....until I met their fans!

The purpose of NASCAR is to race cars.

Oh yeah, and no matter what drugs Lance Armstrong might take, he's not fast enough to race here.

No, your post shows ignorance. Gets you right on my ignore list so I don't have to read your ignorant posts any more. Thanks for the heads up.
