The longest I have ever kept a car was around 4 years. I just ditched my 2010 Malibu and my wife's 2006 Terraza which we had for 3 and 2.5 years respectively. Of the current cars...
2006 BMW 330i - We own it free and clear and it will be my DD for probably the next year or so until something else catches my eye.
2004 Audi TT - I've had this for around a year as a project/weekend fun car. Right now I am debating heavily modding it or trading it towards something like a base model 2011+ 5.0 Mustang.
2010 Buick Enclave - This is the wife's car and she absolutely loves it. There is absolutely no reason I can think of that we would need to get rid of it, other then her getting bored with it. So, figure maybe 4 years or so.
The 1997 Escort commute beater (just to the park & ride) I'll keep until it needs a major repair, still OK at 165,000. The 07 4x4 Ranger gets much less use and I hope to keep it a long time. The 02 Liberty may be replaced within the next year or two despite having under 100,000 miles, for something like the Subaru Crosstrek, for better mileage, and still 4 wheel drive for snow.
Both first cars are Mazdas. That's why they run so well.
I have no idea how many years it will last but I'll drive it until it falls apart. 2001 Mazda 626, purchased used in 2004. It has around 162,000 miles on it.
We have two cars. 2002 Buick LeSabre has about 147 thousand miles on it. In September, 2012, we purchased a 2012 Chev. Impala and it has almost 2 thousand miles on it.
We keep our cars until they die. Our 1996 Buick Century was almost dead with about 170 thousand miles on it. We gave it to our son to finish it off.
2014 Grand Cherokee Limited that I plan on keeping 6-10 years. 'Course, I said that about my '12 GC and traded it when the '14 came out, so we'll see how that goes
2011 Suzuki GSX-R600 that I'll keep until they release one with ABS, then I'll probably trade it in for that. I've got no desire to go to a bigger bike or another style.
1997 Ford Taurus. We've had it since March of 1999. Currently has 190,900 miles on it. If my dad lets me keep it past summer 2014 (when I'll likely get a new car) I hope to never get rid of it. If do have to sell it, my goal is to get to 200,000 miles, which I should hit early next year.
2001 corolla bought brand new. Plan on keeping until the duct tape will not hold the doors on any more.
Haha yes to this!
I have a 1995 Honda Odyssey. I bought it two years ago and I will keep it until it makes no financial sense to fix anymore. If it starts giving me problems one after the other, OR if it needs repairs costing more than it's replacement cost, it will go. It currently has about 158k miles on it, think it was at 153k when we bought it and we are the third owners. When it falls apart I will look for another just like it.
How old is it and how many more years will you keep it?
Year/Brand/Model?
2003 Ford F150 XLT 4.6L V8. I took possession of it in August 2002 and it has 165,000 kms on it. I plan on keeping it indefinitely, or until the cost of gas to feed it rises above what the cost of a car payment AND gas cost for a new vehicle.
I suspect mass disruptions to the global oil supply chains in the near future will put a few kinks in the plans which I read here above.
