i like those too but the awd is relatively poor, no?
It wont be as off-road capable as say the 4-runner, but its still a pretty good performer depending on what type of off conditions you will be needed the awd for. Not to mention, its quite the sleeper with its potent 270hp engine that offers pretty much the same mpg's as its 4cyl counterpart.
They depreciate fast, so used ones can be had for $15K. I have one now and it's incredible in the snow with good all-seaons, and with snow tires it goes anywhere.
I hate SUV's, and wanted a car with HP. Oh and I have 160K miles on mine with no real issues
What year is your G35X? I have a 2008 with almost 90,000. I didn't get a great deal on it (I'm a terrible negotiator), still it's a good car. I'm trying to reduce my monthly expenses. I'm trying to decide if I should trade it in for something cheaper with less miles, or refinance it.
Seriously, I'm from the Great Lakes region, that thing NEVER gets stuck in the snow. I was blown away. The doors did freeze shut once though. I live in Texas now, don't have to deal with that anymore thankfully!
OP, why don't you explain to us WHY do you need some form of a all wheel drive vehicle? As that determines what you need - 4WD or AWD. Personally, I had both, own 2 right now with 2 different types of AWD - viscous differential one and electrical rear motor one. I shall vouch for Japanese AWD from Toyota and Honda as it took me and us through any adverse road conditions, including thick ice and heavy blizzards.
AWD is more than ample for a city warrior. Should you actually go hard core into the wild, you may need 4WD, like 4Runner (terrible mpg, btw) or FJCruiser, should you feel adventurous on car looks. But then again, on ice if you are reckless driver, you go from 4WD to 4 wheel slide as you have ALL wheels locked together and with AWD smart VCM will allow them to spin at various speeds.
So what is that you REALLY need, OP?

surely.
i currently have a 2009 honda accord.
first i want something capable in weather. yes i know FWD + snow tires > awd/4wd with all seasons but i do want that peace of mind seeing as i live in NY, the winters have been awful and i've been chasing storms up into VT to go skiing.
secondly, i enjoy sitting high.
third, i want something relatively affordable.
seems a 4Runner or RAV4 both fit what i want fairly well.

2006. I bought mine slightly used (w/ 10K miles) and have put 150K on it since. It's been good for me and amazing in the snow
