It depends. 4 runner is more of a truck. Subaru definitely more of a car. 4runner is 4WD isn't it? Subaru AWD is great.

15k will get you a very good condition newer Subaru Outback. I would suggest a manual transmission.

Not all 4Runners are 4WD.

Sounds like a challenge from Top Gear. Only thing missing is to take those cars to the jungles of Africa and then search for the delta of a river or something!

We have had an Acura MDX and a Nissan Pathfinder. Both great cars.

I would look for a newer-used Honda CR-V (popular, high quality, uses the same sweet 4-cylinder engine as the Accord), or if you can stretch your budget a little, the new Honda HR-V (because you'll have a hard time finding many used ones yet). The HR-V looks like a really good value in the small AWD crossover segment.

Go buy a 2004-2006 Porsche Cayenne S with under 100k and you'll get luxury, power, great onroad and offroading ability, and excellent reliability.

Some good ones on autotrader right now that are well under your budget, meeting your criteria.
Only a fool would buy a Porsche out of warranty. A minor repair/job will cost you major money. Even routine maintenance is a 8itch.

Good thing the Cayenne is basically bulletproof then. Routine maintenance... changing oil at 15k miles is cheaper than doing it every 5k miles and paying for labor 3 times. It's also incredibly easy to do at home yourself... meaning you don't have any firsthand knowledge of this vehicle if you don't know this.
