Even people who don't care about cars assume your doing all right if your in a Corvette. Also seen as a super performance car, a car a lot of people are jelilous of. Also a luxurious car for the well heeled. A mid life crisis car too. Many people are knowledgeable about Corvettes all years.
How about a Nissan GTR costs even more but many people don't even know what it is. I don't think it has the same prestige except with knowledgeable sports car people.

Yes, if it's a new one.

Also seen as a super performance car,
They're not super cars by any means.

Depends where you live, certainly not where I live.

Not really.

Neither are prestigious. Even the most expensive GTR model isn't close to Ferrari or Lambo or McLaren territory. Same goes for any Vette, plus they are a dime a dozen.
If you're in a stripped Hyundai Accent struggling to make the car payments, a $65,000 car that is usually a garage queen second car for summer use is certainly an expensive, prestigious car.
A good friend of mine has three of them and one of those Polaris Batmobile toys with an aftermarket turbo. He wins the mid-life crisis award. He drives some Japanese Mitsubishi SUV all winter and uses that for his daily summer kayak hauling duty.
Tell us all about the $65,000 summer garage queen you own?

How many GTRs are there in the US compared to Corvettes??
Yeah, in their homeland of Kentucky Jimbo has an old vette up on blocks in the front yard while driving his new truck around instead. Not really seen as a prestigious vehicle at all.
OP, being that you're also in the LA area, I'm surprised of your thoughts on the Corvette. It seems everyone I know in LA, myself included, view Corvettes as a poor-man's sports car for those 30k-millionaire blow-hards. Especially models 3+ yrs old. Now the performance of the new Z06 is impressive by anyone's measure, but its consistently outsold by it's comparables. I believe because of its outdated social stature and lack of refinement.
In the end, if the owner's happy, who gives a hoot...right?

Here even the Tesla, costing $80,000+ is very common and doesn't impress anyone. I see 5-6 every day on the way home from work. In order to really demonstrate your financial success with a car, you would need to have a Maybach, Ferrari or Lamborghini. On the other hand, people here don't seem to be very concerned about what someone else is driving. Really only car people like me notice other cars, and am not impressed by the owner's money, just by the coolness of the car. That's the reason I drive a Challenger, it's just very cool, not cookie cutter like most cars out there, and lots of fun to drive, but also affordable.
