A bag of Walymart 5lb is $2. Keep it in the trunk and use for traction grit.
This is better than a bag of sand because the litter can also be used to soak up garage oil spills or radiator leaks and such. (It's super absorbent, remember?)
The key is preparation. Park at the very front end of the line of parked cars, preferably on the left side of the road if that is allowed. You're less likely to get plowed in and you will have a better chance to just blast out.
Before throwing gravel, see if you can avoid making the car go up any hills. Hills will start the tires spinning. That will cause heat and make wet ice. Wet ice will stop you cold (no pun intended). Then put gravel under and in front of the drive tires.
Very slowly see if idle will get you out of the space.
If not, call in sick or hire one of the neighborhood kids to dig you out.
This is not the first time I have heard of using kitty litter, I will try that. Those freelancers with shovels come around during or towards the end of the snowfall. They are not around looking to dig out cars, but come for the homes.
Thanks everyone.
