Mine chirps for about 20 seconds and stops. One of the things I like about my car (for the .001% of the time I don't wear a belt, or when my 300 lb FIL rides in my passenger seat).

It's those brightly colored coral shirts, man. You just don't want to hide that sh- with an ugly seatbelt strap.

To be honest, I think the cop should have gotten a ticket for violating fashion law!

Wear your seatbelt. They're required for a reason.
how about when I am driving to the convenience store 1 mile from my house on 30 MPH city streets?

the seat belt laws were not originally to be a primary offense (i.e. you could not be pulled over if your only violation was the seat belt). being stopped just for a seat belt is bunk.

uhhh, it's more like 19 states require a helmet.

You can shut the beeper off in my RAM truck. #loveit

I do wear my belt anytime I am not on city streets, but when I am driving around town I see no need for it.

That’s called complacency.

Really. So why did I have to pass a written test, take lessons, attend a 5-hour pre-licensing class, and pass a road test administered by NYS DMV BEFORE getting my license? Why couldn't I just fill out an application, pay a fee, and get right on the road instead, and make my own rules of the road when I got there (like those drivers who rack up a DMV rap sheet)? Why is my keeping my license from being revoked or suspended dependent on me maintaining a clean driving record?

There is no risk to OTHERS simply because YOU are not wearing your seat belt.
Bullcrap. If you have passengers in the car with you and you get into an accident, your body, as well theirs, becomes a projectile.

My father had to give in and start wearing one because my parents bought a car that doesn't shut up until you put it on.

Never assume that someone won't coming flying through an intersection and hit you. Any time you are driving on a public street you should be following all traffic laws.

In some states, like mine, it is a primary offense. And IIRC, NY was the first state to have a seat belt law.

It’s been the law since before most of you were born.
