Would any of you consider buying a diesel powered pick-up truck? Think of an entry level truck with a 4 cylinder diesel that has lots of torque with an optional 6 cylinder diesel. Then move up to the full size truck starting with the 6 cylinder diesel and then onto a V8 diesel. Though not fast, with it's amount of torque it could tow quite a bit of weight but be very good on highway mpg. I only wonder why they don't do a diesel hybrid. Hybrid cars are good on gas in the city but add a diesel engine and you'd also get good highway mpg.

I would buy on unlesss I needed a diesel for pulling. There too noisy'exhaust stinks and the fiters are expensive. They also are more expensive;diesel is not sold at vevery sation and then most one pump and is expensive, If you need one one but other wise no thanks.

The hybrid needs a motor with quick start up, diesel has warm up issues.

As far as diesel powered pick-up trucks, yes I would have bought diesel if it had been available on my truck. Diesel motors last a lot longer than gas motors. I would only buy V8's thou. A small truck with diesel may have the torque but lacks the weight needed for braking with trailers.

My brother has a old VW dasher with a 4 cyl diesel, he's getting 58 mpg.

I used to have a Dodge 3500 with a Cummins back in 2001 and I loved it. The oil changes cost alot more but last longer, injectors cost a fortune when they need replaced, people don't like turbo lag, fuel can be hard to find, and insurance costs more. Those are just some of the issues. The Duramax and the new Powerstroke are pretty quiet now, the Cummins is still noisy as hell though.

If purchasers in the U.S. could get the vehicles that are available in the rest of the world, this would be a reality. I would like to have a compact diesel pickup, but not one of the Mitsubishis or Toyotas that is 20 or more years old. The Chevy Colorado I have in my driveway is available elsewhere in the world with a 3.5L Turbo Diesel (sold as an Isuzu model). I would love to be able to have a truck like this in the U.S. These turbo diesel trucks have been known to get over 40 MPG in endurance testing. If I could get it here, I would.

What foolish logic...

I just got myself a 12v Cummins Ram 2500, I am all about diesel now... I love it!

Truck GUYS?

*Hmph* Some of us womens like the trucks, TOO. And, no, we're not dikes. I'm on my second Silverado, moving up from a 1500 to 2500. Right now I have a longbed; primarily used to tow a motorcycle trailer; but would like to change to the extended cab/short bed to pull a small camper.

*grump* Truck guys, indeed.

What's funny is that they are making and selling them in diesel, just not in America.
Ford has a 4 door Ranger with a diesel motor only for export.

Maybe you should convince some of your girlfriends next time they are vehicle shopping... then perhaps you can begin to break this entirely accurate stereotype.
