I'm not a fan of the Smart car. I wouldn't own one. But I did see a rig like this going down the highway a few weeks ago and thought that this is the coolest use for a Smart.
Ok, so I'm at a festival this weekend and they have a smartcar on display and so I eyeball the sticker in the window and for the low low price of 20k it gets something like 33/42 for mileage.
Seriously? That's it?
You can pretty much get that for thousands less by buying a civic or corolla and not have all the gross limitations.
So what am I missing? anything?
I would have guessed more like 45/55.
If one were a LIB it would make perfect sense..."feels like I'm saving da planet".

Small trucks don't fare well against a full size either.
The NHTSA test ratings are one way to look at how vehicles do when hitting an immovable object at 35mph. That tells you something about how well they would do in the real world if you crash into a bridge abutment, but doesn't tell you anything about what happens when a 7,000 truck or SUV hits a 1,600 Smart car.
Big NFL football player owns and drives a red "Hello Kitty" Smart Car. Imagine a cop pulling over this car, ask the driver to step out, and sees a huge NFL player step out.
