Near the end it said: "Personally I’d be surprised if the mask mandate is lifted before the summer of 2022, though maybe even that’s optimistic. I’m increasingly thinking we may just be wearing masks on planes for years to come."

Are we still here 25 months later?
My mask is of zero benefit to me, it is just a courtesy to the hundreds of others I pass by each day. ONE of which might have a compromised health condition.
Same with the thousands of $ I have spent on USA overinflated test costs. 100% of benefit to others, zero need or benefit to me.
My life is not my own, I'm just passing through. We're all just very, very temporary.
Untrue. Sister is a flight attendant. Most flights are packed and have been.
I just flew from Orange County to Spokane, changing planes halfway. Flights up (on a Friday) were 80% full. Flights down (on Sunday) were 100% full. The airports looked about as busy as they typically were before Covid. So I have to judge that you are more correct than the person who said flights are only 25% filled, but this may not apply to international flights.
My brother-in-law flew from LAX to Munich at the end of December and reported that he had three seats to himself.
No, we absolutely don't know if "on March 18 will be no masks on airplanes".
Since January 2021, the Transportation Security Administration has required passengers on commercial airplanes, over-the-road and commuter buses, and rail systems to wear face masks. The rule has been extended until March 18.
Right - the mask thing has already been extended - twice. Third time's a charm...?
I'm not an anti-masker - but - mathematically - it's pretty easy to show that 99%+ of all airplane mask wearing is statistically useless. I'm not saying it won't help - I'm saying - there's no one next to you that's contagious - so what's the point?
Obviously we do not KNOW who is - and who isn't - but - statistically - 80% of planes - that's 4 out of 5 - have zero contagious people on them. The remaining flights have 1 person on them. So if ALL the masks were doing SOMETHING - it would be very, very little, in the best of cases.
Mask-wearing on planes is just a thing the gov't "can do" - in an effort to "do something" - and they are having a heck of a time walking it back - because they bought into it so deeply. They cannot save face and back up.
My prediction is: Mask mandates will end in January, 2025.
This is because I don't know if a fully republican congress can overturn executive orders - but if so, then mask mandates may end this fall.

This is news to me. EVERY flight I’ve been on in the past year has been sold out.
