Go Philly, yup!! As a native, I agree with your statement. When neighborhoods lose establishments (no matter what you think about it), a certain vibrancy is lost..forever!!! Or maybe?

Some people in Philly lament the loss of these establishments as they added to the whole vibe of the area.

Haha exactly! One of Philly's more famous theaters in Center City, the Forum, was just recently demolished to make way for large scale development in the form of luxury condominiums most likely. Same thing happened to NYC and Times Square. Gentrification is good on the whole, but it's a shame the cost of gentrification more times than not is the displacement of the residents and institutions that made the neighborhood unique and interesting.

That's the irony of gentrification.

If by grittiness you mean: human trafficking, drugs, crime, prostitution, and the human race at its lowest point, then I guess you are right.

Still not sure what biz owner on bmore ave has on what govt official, but that place needs to be razed. Could turn it into Bourbon street type area of bars.

Lots of drugs, prostitution, dieseases on that street. AND THAT IS WITH A POICE PRESENCE.
