In the two recent series between these clubs, Ichiro was hit twice, Jeter twice and Rodriguez once.

The Brewers placed Cesar Izturis on waivers and called up Jean Segura

The Angels give up a good chunk of their farm system to land Zack. Segura was one of their top prospects and Hellweg was also in their top 10.

Baseball America had Segura as the 43rd rated prospect in their mid-season rankings.

I think this is a pretty solid return for the Brewers. Segura isn't a great defensive player and may have to move off of short but he should be able to hold down shortstop for a few seasons - a position that the Brewers desperately need. His bat isn't outstanding, he doesn't draw walks, but he has some power, makes good contact and has excellent speed. For a SS, that's good enough.
Izturis was claimed by the Nationals

Verlander threw well over 100 pitches and struck out 14 in an absolutely dominating performance. Cabrera hit a reallyyyyyyyyyyyyy long home run to boot.

Tigers seem to be coming up strong in the division. I see the Yankees winning the East, tigers winning the central, and the rangers winning the west. The wild card is going to be interesting.

Ichiro's lat HBP (pre-Yankees) was July 20, 2010, by Danks of the White Sox. A little more than two years ago.

And in other news, the Whitesox continue to win and hold a lead over the Tigers as they have the majority of the season.

Ichiro was 0-4 in last night's Yankee loss to Verlander and the Tigers.

In his ML career, Ichiro has struck out 795 times in 8421 plate appearance, or a k every 10.6 trips to the plate.

Last night he fanned three times.

Angels Mike Trout with a couple more hits plus three stolen bases last night.

Looks like he is going to pull off the Fred Lynn triple crown, Rookie of the Year, MVP and a Golden Glove.

Speaking of which, Ichiro is the other fellow to pull that off.

Last year Detroit went 38-16 in August and September. Don't be surprised if they do it again.

The Houston Astros suck

Filihok: Yakety Sax: Houston Astros Defense (8/7/12)

Watch the video

and

play the music

Enjoy!

The play begins in the top of the 11th inning of the Astros and Nationals game on August 6th. With no outs newly acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki attempts to sacrifice Roger Bernadina to 2nd base. A successful sacrifice would have left the Astros with a 44% win expectancy. The resulting errors allowed Bernadina to score and Suzuki to reach 3rd base leaving the Astros with only a 20% win expectancy. This single play cost the Astros about 25% win expectancy.
