Can't believe MJ spent $120 million on Hayward. Did he not watch his 4 years in Boston??
MJ loves guys who were college stars. He overdrafts and over pays them!
Denver losing Grant means Michael Porter needs to keep improving and suck up those minutes. Millsap's deal is short term and about right. They do need a back up big though who can come in and give them energy minutes on nights when Jokic is on cruise control/foul trouble. I guess they figure they can do it cheaper than what Detroit is paying Plumlee, but I am not sure.
and Joel Embiid breathes a sigh of relief that Gasol is out of the East.
I hope Wes Matthews gets more playing time for the Lakers. I'm still not sure why Bud sat him on the bench so much. He'd start, & few min in the game get subbed & you'd hardly see him again. He's mostly a defensive guy but he could stop Harden, Butler at times, & loved those big opportunities. I'm not surprised he left considering he didn't get the minutes.
If you are a Lakers fan, you must be in heaven. They swept up all the free agents they wanted. The disparity in the league gets worse very year. If you live the one of the "desirable" cities like LA, SF, Miami, NY you are golden, 2nd tier cities like Toronto, Boston and Philadelphia maybe. Anywhere else, forget it. The way things are set up now, if you strike the jackpot in the lottery and find the next Giannis, you are good for a few years until one the big cities starts to look more attractive. The league needs, and will most likely never have, a hard cap like the NFL. Look at Green Bay, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Jacksonville, not exactly destination cities, but they all have NFL teams and a few Super Bowls.
The Hornets giving all that money and term to Gordon Hayward is very Jordan-esque. Now to be fair, the Hornets did try to pry him away from Utah in 2014 but the Jazz matched the offer-sheet. So Hayward has been on their "wish-list" but it comes at a time where he's not the player he was in Utah (sadly, that injury took a lot from him).
This franchise should be entering a period where they are building for the future around their young players and seeing what works and what doesn't. They would have had one more year of Nic Batum on the contract books but now they are going to be paying him $9 million or whatever it was for the next 3-4 seasons, as well as paying an aging Hayward all that $$. Now Hayward could bounce back but I don't expect him to do so long-term, so basically this is another Nic Batum contract.

He was there 3 years and played 2 because of injury. He was a bad fit in Boston. He needs to be the 1st or 2nd option not the 4th or coming off the bench. In today's NBA someone who has scored 20 points a game and been an all star and is 30. The salary is about the norm.
Lakers have to hope he finds his shot. It disappeared last year.
The Lakers won a title with two bigs who can't shoot. Gasol at least will keep the defenses honest especially at the end of games and won't need to be as productive as before. He is a big step up from Howard or McGee. Their biggest flaw was poor free throw shooting which forced them out of close games at the end.

Yeah, unfortunately I don’t see anyone beating the Lakers this year when they added Harrell and Gasol and only lost Danny Green and Dwight Howard. The Warriors will probably be in the WCF with them but without Klay and with a rookie center I don’t see it happening.
I do love how silent everyone is about the Sixth Man of the Year going to the reigning champion when certain other players would’ve been crucified, but that’s how easily manipulated NBA fans are by media hype (or lack thereof).
