After reading some of the forums on here about racism in baton rouge I am a little worried about having to relocate. I understand that some racism is everywhere however, from reading some of the posts it seemed to be excessive. I am a white female with two bi-racial children and I do not want them to be in an environment where they are treated poorly as they are only 4 and 6 months. Are their certain areas in baton rouge that are more accepting to the times? Are there some places that I need not look for housing. I am a single mom who will be making a fairly good living and just want to be in a safe environment where my kids can get a good education without being discriminated against.

I think the areas around LSU are the most mixed area of BR. We do have a moderate crime problem in this area but for the most part it is kids bracking into cars for the H... of it.There is ever kid of mixed couples on the face of the planet living here. Two of the nicest people I have ever meet where from Chad Africa(I hope I got it typed correct) A man and Wife and two beautifull children and they have lived here in peace for the past seven years. My white neighbor has a 1/2 AFRICAN AMERICAN 1/2 ASIAN Wife and He has had no problems since they moved in 3 yrs. ago.
I would suggest not moving to North BR.The education here is spotty some good public schools but I think the privite schools do a better job.Just M O.

Don't put too much faith in the nay-sayers here . Too them , the sky is falling . My own neice has a mixed race child and I have never heard of it being an issue . My supervisor is from a mixed race family and his own wife is of a different race than him . It's more common here than you think . There are idiots EVERYWHERE , and there could be a comment from somebody , at some point in their lives , but it is NOT the norm here .

One very important fact I forgot to mention is that there is a very serious DRUG problem in this area but if you don't do them and just be carefull it should not be a problem for You and the family.

I've noticed and heard about more alcohol related incidents than drugs. Lots of DUIs, lots of intoxicated fights. Haven't read too much in the paper about drugs here.

I believe you. I was not doubting there are drug problems here in BR. It just is not as apparent to me as alcohol abuse. I'm not sure what else I could say about it. I don't live in an area that has apparent drug problems, nor do I know anyone with a drug problem.
