I decided to start a new thread for this, it's a question that's been on my mind. I've read some stuff online but I think I'd really like to hear directly from people who reside on the Hawaiian Islands......why do the locals have attitude toward newcomers? Do you just see too many who disrespect the islands or is it fear of over population or a combination of a lot of things?? I think knowing what is in the hearts of the locals, what their fears are, would be helpful to know.
Yes, as a Haole you should be paranoid of going to the Islands.
In fact, seeing as though you felt the need to create a new thread - as opposed to reading through the multitude of previous threads on this state of paranoia - I strongly suggest you stay off the Islands; no doubt you'll interpret the aloha spirit as being an ulterior motive.
This is one topic which has truly been done to death here already. Please spend a few hours reading the previous posts on this subject in the archives.
Oh I dunno, I think it is a good litmus test for the *true* haoles. If you are compelled to start a thread about the race issue when it has been discussed to the point of nausea, you might be what they're talking about when they use the "h-word."
Yes, let's talk about something that hasn't been covered before. For example, I hear that Hawaii is really expensive. Is that true? How much does, say, a gallon of milk cost?
New here ... and read the threads suggested for haole. I think Kay is doing a college thesis on racism and picked Hawaii as the subject. I agree - I would rather discuss how much a gallon of milk costs ... no wait a pint of half/half.
Alright....alright....I get the picture.....and I am all about the aloha spirit, it's what attracts me to the islands and why I feel I'd fit in, or would fit in eventually. I'm just guilty of being a newbie to forums, something I've never gotten into. I don't generally spend hours and hours on the computer in the first place so I'm very sorry if I irritated anyone, I didn't mean to. I just want to learn all I can and this seemed to be a good starting place for me.
My most humble apologies, seriously. Now what about the price of milk? Cheaper? More expensive? (that was a joke, people!! Laugh!!)
