Forgot to answer that q, KupuKupu, the estimated platform cost given above is about 3 years old, it's gone a bit higher in that time ~$11,000 now, but yes, that is an estimated cost for labor AND materials and that is with an SPF T&G floor, not plywood. Have to put a hard varnish on it because SPF is a soft wood (either Spruce, Pine or Fir), but the floor turns out beautifully and really holds up well with a spar varnish or polyurthane.

/kupukupu57 - I'm not trying to be negative but you already bought a Yurt without knowing ahead of time the cost of building the base, whether or not you can get insurance and no place to put it? I guess it's just my disposition but not putting the cart ahead if the horse (research, gain knowledge, make a plan then execute) seems like the logical path...

I do hope it works out for you and you get what you want.

I'd say, you're unlikely to get a response from that person.

You're newish, so here's a tip... look at the date in the upper left corner to see when a post was made... 4 years ago in this case... and click on the poster's name to see their profile info... this one posted 7 times 4 years ago, hasn't been back since.

I hope that's helpful.

LOL! I'm usually the one catching people doing that (on other sites)! I'll blame it on a 3 martini lunch. I didn't have a 3 martini lunch, but I'm going with that excuse anyway.

Aloha Dreamyurt,

We can help direct you to the insurance companies/agents that will permit a yurt. Are you currently working with a reputable yurt person for construction and permitting? It helps if you are so that we can assure the insurance company that codes have been met, etc. If you're going solo on a lot of the work, we can still usually look over the project, ensure that the project is done to permanent code standards and write a letter to that effect to help your insurance needs. Let us know if we can help, I don't visit this forum much anymore, but we can be found through the usual routes. Happy Yurting!!

Melissa Fletcher
