Let's get this straight, 'cause a couple people think that constantly repeating a lie, makes it true.
Walmart, in Hawaii, does not pay minimum wage - they pay at least several dollars more per hour than that.
Walmart started as a small business. Sam Walton simply succeeded in making his small business grow, what virtually ever small business owner aspires to do.
Yeah, it's a complicated world, in which the mainland edition of Roy's Hawaiian Fusion is headquartered in Florida, as is Outback Steakhouse, mate.
I'm aware that L&L has locations in a half dozen western states on the mainland. And one in New York. I've even been to one in the Silicon Valley, as well as the one on Kinoole Street in Hilo. But to me that's still a regional chain, not a national one, and with their HQ in Honoruru, I can't imagine them being anything remotely like dealing with the McDonald's Corp. And the maybe 15% franchise fee the local owner pays isn't going to leave the state.
Having locations in China, Japan, and New Zealand makes L&L a little more than a "regional chain."

And his living ohana twisted his vision. The poor man is probably rolling in his grave some where. Sam Walton believed in community responsibility etc etc.

Technically, maybe not, although they pay less than a livable wage... by their own admission. It is part of their business plan. I've seen their ads in the local paper for new hires at substantially lower rates than the ones they claimed in that PR piece you posted.
And let's not forget the way they manipulate schedules to keep most employees on a part-time schedule so they get no perks, no benefits, and don't even make a decent paycheck.
So let's compromise and say they pay a minimal wage.

What is the comparable living wage based on COL in Oahu today? Isnt it like $25hr?
Jesus Jonah, the measure of what is good or bad shouldn't be based on profit sharing and profits in total. No offence intended.
Ease up!! Jonah was merely commenting on OpenD's post about whether or not L&L BBQ is a national chain or a regional chain. Nothing in the part you quoted had anything to do with whether it was good or bad
Compared to profit? Maybe a profitable local business makes a million in profits and few million in sales. Walmart? Walmart increased net sales by 1.6% to $473.1 billion and returned $12.8 billion to shareholders through dividends. They made $3.78 Billion In Profit in 1Q 2013. You want to compare? The owners of walmart own more then 50% of the stock and are worth more then 100 billion dollars. But they cant pay a livable wage. Further they rely on handouts and incentives from local businesses to come and make themselves rich

Im not attacking him, im just seeing a common theme on here. That profits and making money is good no matter what the side effects or costs may be. Another words it doesn't matter how we get there as long as we get there.
