Having attended several pro bowls with half empty stadium crowds - it certainly didn't seem to be a Hawaii thing.

I will say that it seemed odd to me always that Hawaii had hosted the pro bowl. I get the over representation of certain island demographics in the NFL, but I’d wager that many don’t want to make such a long flight for a weekend of activities. And, based on your experience, locals didn’t seem to make up the difference to get the stadium filled.

...the size of the crowd has nothing to do with the fact that from 1980 until 2011 the Pro bowl was held annually in Aloha stadium in Hawaii, making it a 'distinctively Hawaii thing', and now it's not...carry on...

Just because something occurred in Hawaii - does not make it a 'distinctively Hawaii thing' - what you are also leaving out is literally decades of Pro Bowls that were not played in Hawaii.
