Great turn out and great game. Parking is still challenging and the lines were tough.

Concessions are currently the Achilles heel of Protective Stadium. Gotta get that worked out.

Otherwise, great experience. And a pretty good crowd when you realize that Savannah Bananas were playing at Rickwood tonight in front of 13,000 folks. The smart move was to let kids in for free and keep the other tickets cheap. Given how this is really a TV play, they aren't relying on the gate to propel revenue.

Excellent game!
I love the sensible tweaks to NFL rules, especially the OT shootout system.
And the cool camera angles and microphones that let you hear the playcalls and sideline talk was excitingly different.
Hope it works out 'cause I love football!
(Giants fan here so both teams could have beat the @#$% out of us.)

I know they are short staff as it is. Plus comedian Mike Epps was at Legacy Arena at 7 tonite as well. With a large crowd, not having enough workers can hinder operations.

amazing atmosphere tonight. definitely felt like a bigger crowd than the UAB home opener, which was the only other time i had been to the stadium. i would guess this was the second largest crowd behind the Birmingham Bowl. as mentioned...concessions are still an issue. a big one.

got very fortunate with the weather as well. it literally stopped raining right around kickoff.

i'm actually going to try and find a replay of the game somewhere so i can see how it (and Birmingham) looked on TV for myself. glad to hear the positive feedback above though.

Yeah, I missed the UAB opener but did go to the Bowl. That game was definitely the biggest. I was hoping concessions would be better this time since I assumed the crowd would be lighter, but nope. There were less people than the B Bowl, but still way more than they could handle at concessions. The line getting in was slow too.

Cool flyover though.

3 millions viewers..I think FOX was aiming for two millions. Also was going on while the NBA playoffs was happening.

the next few weeks will be interesting. obviously the games involving Birmingham will get crowds (although i will speculate a fair amount smaller than opening night). hopefully the support stays strong. next week bodes well that Birmingham and Houston will square off (both winners this weekend).
