boise is mostly blue from cole road eastward... everything west is conservative..for the most part...
I think choosing where to live based on political positions is absurd, it says you're more worried about other people than yourself... granted, if what you seek for yourself happens to be in a liberal part of town.. then so be it.. but it shouldn't be the reason WHY you choose to live there... I'm not conservative, and frankly religion to me is alltogether absurd and ridiculous. I can understand a wantingness and needing to feel accepted and included, and for that i can understand your concerns especially when children are involved, but I'm not that convinced about it being THAT big of a deal I mean I have a neighbor that is a gun toting, red blooded republican that likes to rant about how he hates obama every time I see him... needless to say, I don't live here or move away because of him and his beliefs....I think he's crazy and a bit of a nut, but I wouldn't consider moving because of it..
I dunno... is it just me or is the political divide in boise getting really pronounced?? it's quite interesting either way...

I think the political divide in the country is extremely pronounced, and probably won't get better any time soon.

I just bought a house in Caldwell-and am moving next week. Once I get there, I will find this thread and give my perspective of Caldwell-because it takes so much bashing about gangs and crime-which is everywhere...I should know, I worked in law enforcement for 20 years. No place is perfect........ I have lived in Michigan, Ohio, Edmunds, Wash., San Mateo, Ca., Mexico and all over southern Calif. It will be very interesting to see green, feel the seasons, and be able to take a ride in the country. I can't wait to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the people I have met so far have been so nice, I wonder if I am in a dream......................I think it is partly your personal attitude and expectations=give new things a chance, and you might be surprised-if not, then keep going until you do find friends, church, etc. that you like.

It's worse than I've ever seen it in my life.

Boiseguy, I am gun-toting, red-blooded republican, conservative and religious. I also really don't like Obama either. Will I fit it in Boise? Can I live next door to you to? We're generally very good people.. Maybe, sometime you and I could can check out one of Boise's several nice shooting ranges .. Hope you don't mind the big NOBAMA sticker on the back of my car..

Well ok, I actually might not quite be the typical "red-blooded" American patriot type. However, I like guns, I don't like Obama, I am republican, not a big government person, etc.

However, I live at peace and harmony with my liberal neighbors. As long as they don't try to shove down my throat why they hate this or that REpublican politician or why I should accept this or that, I live at harmony with them. Yeah, if they will start trying to stir up a fight, like so many of them do, I will stand up for myself and give them a piece of my mind. Are you sure some of the reaction from your neighbor isn't defensive? You're not one of those guys with a giant Obama is My Hero banner on your front yard are you? Several Oregonians are yet to remove their Obama stickers from their car and I highly doubt they ever will. I guess it became like a religion or cult.

I like nature, hug trees, drink tea and enjoy a nice conversation. I spend long hours meditating, like to practice yoga and do other atypical activities and do other yuppie like things. Actually, I am of Middle Eastern origin. Once again, not typical Republican stock.

Basically, I just want to say not all gun-toting republicans are bad people.. I think it is liberals who are close-minded, condescending and try to enforce their political and ethical beliefs on everyone and condemn everyone to their own version of hell for not accepting them. Every now and again you get a loud-mouth gun-toting hot-blooded Republican type who behaves maybe in some of the same manners as many of the liberals do here in Oregon and then he is condemned to oblivion. Really, this is one of the reasons I am trying to get out of Oregon. Yeah, there are a few rough and mean rednecks and their right-wing ways who try to push all that on you, but I have to say I find a lot more of the condemning and ridicule coming from the left-side.

My mother voted for Obama, but I am still her favorite son. My father voted for McCain. Our family understands harmony and true co-existence, unlike many of the hippicrites were there co-exist stickers, yet only stick to their own kind and their own dogma.

This is an old thread but what the OP said about police in Meridian is spot on.."they are watching". I live in Boise but go to Meridian every day. Literally every night when I am driving home between 11pm and 1am I see at least one, maybe two cars pulled over. Mind you I only drive from Cherry Lane at Meridian Road to the free way. I am in constant fear of being pulled over even though I'm not doing anything wrong. But for a city the size of of Meridian with the low crime rate..there are way too many police. I always breath a sigh of relief the second I hit the freeway and am under jurisdiction of the troopers, and an even bigger sigh of relief when I cross Eagle road and am back in Boise. It reminds me of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The second you cross that bridge, their powers end.

I'm an agnostic and voted for Cynthia McKinney, Green party candidate for president because both of the mainstream choices were too closely aligned with corporate interests. I voted for Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic primary.

I support single-payor (yes, "socialist") healthcare, marriage for any two people who love each other, workers' rights and LGBT rights. I am not "in your face" to others about these issues, but I personally believe all of these to be basic human-rights/human-dignity positions.

I also believe that among the right-wingers, there are many (MANY!) who have merely been brainwashed by the lies presented as fact on Fox News. Really? You're going to trust a criminal who hacks into victim's phones to tell you the truth about anything?!? But I digress...

I have been unemployed for over a year and am coming to Boise for a job interview later this week, hoping I can turn things around for my family before our COBRA coverage (that I pay over $1100/month for) runs out.

If the job is offered to me, will I be able to find ANY like-minded people in Boise?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

um, I don't talk politics with any of my neighbors, in fact my neighbor just assumes that I agree with everything he says or that he's enlightening me.. I just usually bolt for the house and ignore him...
He's not a bad person, I just don't have anything in common with him..or care to hear about anything enlightening from his mouth
he doesn't know I'm gay, doesn't know my political beliefs, and doesn't really know me at all. But I know he's Mormon, racist, republican (not saying all are the same or because someone is one they are the others) I only gather this information from HIM by WHAT he says to me thinking I agree or will say that I agree.. It's like he's looking for me to have interest sparked and chime in...

I would never move because of his views.. I don't give people that much power over me... he can use the n word rant and rave, and blast up the side of a mountain all he wants.. I just don't care.. that's the point of my post.. and why should I care?
