I just got a kindle today and I'm loving it, but, I want to know if there is anyway I can make the screen light up for reading in the dark? I can't seem to find anyway yet

eInk isn't backlit, that's why it's easy on the eyes and not like a computer screen - Amazon make a cover with a built-in reading light and there are other reading lights available from other companies, designed to go with the Kindle.
Love my Kindle! I'm over 45 and a book freak so it was a slow decision. I used to love having my books around me. Not anymore. I took most of my books to Half Price Books and sold them back. I see the few books I have left and think - What a waste of space - and dusty. Now I have lots of books in one place. I also have Scrabble on it.
I read more with a Kindle. I like being able to instantly down load a book when I want it without having to go somewhere or wait for a delivery. The fact I can increase the type size is huge - I have normal aging eyes and I find myself using a mangnifying glass even though I am wearing reading classes to read some books and magazines (I'm talking to you Vanity Fair).
Most of all I like The Privacy of it - no one knows what I am buying and reading.
What about an Ipad? I've been wanting a Kindle, or a Nook....but lately I've been seriously considering getting an Ipad. How is this for reading, for accessing books, availability?? I know my aunt has a Nook & an Ipad (with books on it), & uses them both for reading. I don't know if it's because she had one & got another as a gift maybe.
I'm fairly clueless when it comes to technology, BTW!!
The iPad, like all tablet computers, is backlit so if you find looking at a computer screen too long strains your eyes, you'd be better off with an eInk device. But if you're okay reading for long periods on a computer screen and you're thinking about buying the iPad anyway, for the other features, it would be a good option for you. Keep in mind it's pretty heavy compared to eInk devices and the battery life is shorter. I have both an iPad and a Kindle - I use my Kindle for reading books but the iPad for reading magazines and newspapers.
I had to go with the Kindle because I spend too much time all day at work staring at computer monitors. The Kindle is different. There's no eye strain.
