I agree with you. The Twilight story is phenomenal. I love the characters so very much that I'm willing to read, and re-read, and re-read the books just to spend time with them.
Hubby did, then mailed the books BACK to the publisher with a resume, lol!
I read them just to see what DSD was making such a fuss about, and to find out what the heck "team jacob" was, lol.
Worst books I have EVER read, I mean, I could slog through bio chem books and be more interested, lol!
One of my coworkers asked me what 'team' I was on and I simply replied 'I'm on team vampires should kill people and suck their blood and NOT SPARKLE.'
So, that's the team both me and my coworker are on. We have, however, seen the last two movies in the theatre (it's one of the only ways we can get away from our hubbies ) but we bring wine with us, so it's more bearable
I read all of them and thought that they are a little vague but alright! of course they are geared towards teens! i liked the sookie stackhouse novels and even the house of night series better! as vampire books go
Well, they're geared towards teenage girls. And in my opinion, as a teen male who spends alot of time around teenage females, Meyer nailed it. The way Bella thinks and talks is exactly the way other girls do now a days: She feels clumsy & unsure, likes adventure, has average looks and self-esteem and is just fine with it. Edward gives her 115% undivided attention and Jake is a jocky werewolf who fights with him for her... what's NOT for them to like?
I appreciate the novels because they re-invigorated the gothic romance genre, but they're not my favorite.
If you want to read vampire books, read the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. They are for a bit of an older audience (a little more sexual) but millions of times better than the twilight series. IMO, the Twilight series was poorly written with a somewhat uninspired plot. So much time is spent with Bella whining or discussing how attractive Edward is. The fourth book was so ridiculous, I couldn't even read it- and that says loads as I am a HUGE reader.

Southern Vampire Mysteries are great, and oddly enough the TV series TrueBlood may be even better (when does THAT happen?)
The only thing that gets on my nerves with them is the ridiculous amount of characters- I think she was up to about a hundred by the latest novel, and some of them do the same thing (ie, Alcide and another were who could have easily been merged into the same character). But, they are still great novels. The fourth one, Dead to the World, has some of the greatest sex scenes in a book I've ever read.
I found Twilight to be a quick and entertaining read - "tween Harlequin romance" is a pretty apt description. The book was better than the (bad) movie, IMO.
I started New Moon but I just can not get into it. Pages and pages of Bella-the-drama-queen drowning in her own personal sea of despair, ugh. I've heard book 3 is better..
The books are horribly written but addictive. Your reward for making it through books 2 and 3 is book 4. Then it got fairly interesting.
