Chicago's got much more going for it than Boston, not to mention the fact that it's more affordable.

Boston--full of local yokels--born in Malden, live in Malden, die in Malden. They couldn't locate Chicago, or anything else, on any map..

I've heard the same argument made for Texas, and I'm passing on that as well.

I was born and grew up in Boston, I love it here, but Chicago is nothing to sneeze at. Bigger city, tons of art and culture, more affordable, fantastic food, good sports town. All around great place to live. I'd take it over SF which I've also lived in (for living, would take SF for visiting).

What kind of crap is this?! Cliff was reacting to ugly posts from someone else disparaging Boston.

As far as the topic goes, Chicago is a great city, very livable, easy to get around, and tons of amenities. but if you want to live in the desirable areas, you are going to be shelling out 800k+ for a 1600 sq ft bungalow or loft-type condo. If you want affordable you are going to find yourself in Bolingbrook.

Beyond city limits Chicago falls well short of Boston. New England is head and shoulders above that entire region. One hour north of Chicago and you are in Kenosha, one hour north of Boston and you are in Marblehead or Salem, a little further and you are in Gloucester. An hour south of Boston and you are on Cape Cod. An hour south of Chicago and you find yourself cruising Kankakee.

And yes, I know where Chicago is, in fact I was married at 4th Presbyterian on Michigan Ave, My in-laws live 46 floors above Saks and I have friends on West Grace, in Elk Grove Village and...you guessed it, Bolingbrook.

How's Kenosha worse than Salem?

Typical Salem: https://maps.google.com/maps?client=...&ved=0CJoBELYD

Typical Kenosha: https://maps.google.com/maps?client=...&ved=0CJwBELYD

Both are typical ugly boring american suburbs.

Not much of a history buff I take it.

It is clear that you have never been to either.

I will admit that I enjoyed the SnapOn Tool Factory tour that I went on in Kenosha.

Now see, I can agree about the suburbs. But two hours North you're in Madison and less you're in Milwaukee, and our region can't rival those (maybe Burlington, but that is 3.5 hrs or so). Northampton/Amherst don't compare. I guess Providence is pretty tight, good arts scene.

Salem is definitely better than Kenosha or Beloit though.

It's funny, but I actually been to both, albeit briefly. Both are nothing to write home about.
