Hi We are moving to Boston cambridge area and already have purchased house there would like help regarding the best public school for 10 year old kid in cambridge boston .Also would like to know the admission process in cambridge area as me and kid will be joining in the month of June, July can we enroll our kid before september.What is last date to take admissions in school for the year September 2014.My hubby is already relocated and confused about schools there .Please help

Are you from the UK, by any chance? In the U.S. "public school" is free and provided by the government. The term "private school" refers to independent schools that charge tuition and may have certain admission standards. I know that is the reverse in the UK.

Poke around the CPS website for more information about individual schools and to learn more about the registration process. As Cantabridgienne (cool name btw!) said, public school is taxpayer funded here - you don't pay to send your kids to school except perhaps for sports and other after school activities. Cambridge has a wide array of specialized programs in its elementary schools. The following rather extensive document from the city school department provides a very detailed explanation of the individual schools and of the system in general:
