It's pretty ****ty. I lived in Vermont for years before moving back and have lived in northern New England my whole life so I'm well accustomed to winters. I drive a Forester and it's mostly fine in low gear, but I still managed to partially spin out on black ice on Albany Street during a snowstorm while going 10 miles an hour. Honestly you just have to stay calm and steer into it until you can right yourself.

I'd say the bigger problem is street parking after a snow emergency in Boston.

Which is why I have a 4 wheel SUV...I can park anywhere, don't need to shovel and don't need to play those evil reindeer parking games!

With snow tires, driving in snow is similar to driving in the rain. You don't want to go fast, but you won't be white-knuckling it the entire time either.

Technique is the ticket, most cars have Front wheel drive which is fine for the most part. They salt and sand the $hit out of the roads, so I wouldn't worry about it. The basic rule is everything in slo-mo, braking, turning, etc. A lil practice and you'll be fine.
