Almost the entire country is broke, except for the upper class. We're the wealthiest country in the world, but its all at the top couple of percent. Good thing Trump and the GOP did the tax code revision to help that top couple of percent permanently and threw a couple of cents temporarily to the rest of us, while exploding the deficit at the same time!

I think a big reason, though not the only reason, that everyone is broke is because people are slaves to consumption. We are literally programmed to desire something to consume at all times.

Right?

Feel rich? I have no idea how this is even remotely possible...

That's definitely true - that avocado toast (and three mimosas or bloody marys every sunday that end up being $80 after tip, and four cocktails every friday and saturday) will add up to a good chunk of cash in a hurry. And that's before we even get to the latest, shiniest iPhone, 999,999 cable channels and a closetfull of Canada Goose.

I can walk by a store without going in and buying something. I don't shop online either. I don't feel entitled to European vacations. I can actually cook (and prefer it to mindlessly going out). It's not that hard.

The real thing I don't see how it's remotely possible are the people on here saying "My wife and I make a combined 175k- is that enough?" Unreal.

I'm not broke, and I started contributing to my retirement plan in my early/mid 20s. Probably didn't break 50k till I hit 30. I'm not in the top 1% and never will be. I will continue to build the best life possible for myself, not make excuses like blaming Trump for my inability to get my own consumption under control.

Trump might be awful in every way imaginable but let's be honest, he's the best thing that has ever happened to our 401K accounts.

Also, good job starting early, you'll have seven figures in there when you retire.
