I'll be visiting Boston for the first time in late March for a conference at the convention center. I don't mind staying farther away (1-3 miles from the center) and commuting by foot or public transit to save money. Can someone tell me some good places neighborhoods to look for airbnb's that would be convenient to commute to the convention center? Really hard to tell from maps online with no knowledge of public transit there. Thanks!

^^Exactly, this matters a lot. Hynes is right on the Green Line, whereas Boston Conv & Exhibition Center is in the Seaport (Red Line to South Station, then walk...I've done it, just not that great if it's not warm!)

Seaport, Leather District, South Boston (aka Southie, not South End). Chinatown also in walking distance. Downtown Crossing, Financial District are nearby but not many residences.

Chelsea is not that great a neighborhood but you could take the Silver Line direct to the BCEC from there if you’re really slumming it

Stay somewhere on the Red Line and you could take that into south station and walk or transfer to Silver to get to BCEC

Chelsea is not that bad... They have a brand new area of hotels and condos by the Silver Line Stop. Thats the most pretentious m******* response Ive ever seen.

Great- thank you! This gives me a good number of options to check out and understanding of which lines are best to get directly to the center.

If you're traveling for work you should stay as close to the convention center as the travel policy allows. Our mass transit system is garbage and the last thing you want to do is waste an hour commuting to the convention center if you don't have to.

Good point. Doesn't your convention have a list of recommended hotels close by with convention rates?

A really cool and inexpensive option (for Boston) in the Seaport District is the Yotel Boston.
