Unless you're in either the drug/party/student scene or a native Vermonter the opportunities for social connection are limited because many people are insular and averse to newcomers. It costs a small fortune relative to its rural nature and they get you coming and going on taxes. Winter lasts 7 months followed by the "mud season." Church Street is their claim to fame, and that amounts to a bunch of over-hyped overpriced dining and drinking spots. I think even the "mall" they had downtown has pretty much gone to the skids. There is zero diversity in political representation and it shows in how this city is run. But don't let your car idle/warm up in winter for more than 5 minutes because some busy-body will call the police and have you fined.
What else can you expect from a town that gave us Saint Bernieardus?

I would think Burlington would be the type of city that could do without a huge police presence but apparently not. There are a few colleges in the are which likely keep things busy...who knows who crosses over the Canadian border and ends up in Burlington these days.

I think most of the trouble there comes from the south. I'm sure cross border drug trade fuels some of that gang activity, but I bet the vast majority of drugs trafficked in are being sold to the locals.

This case is old but she was associated with some drug dealers from NYC. They were seen as 'exotic' when they came to VT.

Look at the victims and perps, they're not coming from Canada.

People from New York, and Boston (all of Southern New England really) deal drugs and trade guns for drugs in Vermont.

Here's one rapper from Haverhill who got killed on the Canada-VT border in Swanton VT. He was well known to law enforcement in Haverhill for sneaking a loaded gun into a police cruiser.

His rap, view the comments to connect the dots.

That has been true since the 80s at least. Nothing new.

Yea of course. but it's probably more likely to be that than Canada. But it all has to tie back to people living in Vermont. Probably Opiods as per usual.

Woman assaulted - dog stolen then recovered. Not the best, but not a bad part of Cambridge.
