Those comments are based on real life observations. You cannot tell me that things have not gotten worse on the T, as far as more sketchballs and anti-social behavior.

I think it's (at least) a two-fold issue. One, I think there are more mentally unstable people on the streets around Boston. Two, in recent days I think they are much more likely to be able to access the T for free than in years past.

There's always been bad behavior on the T, maybe there's more now, who knows....but people recording things on their phone and complaining about their experiences on social media has also increased.

I think Boston has inherited more mentally ill people and drug ridden people in the last decade or so thanks to the whole melnea cass situation. MA is such a liberal state and 'we' seem to welcome all sorts people with all sorts of problems.

It could be that more legit people have given up on the T, leaving a higher proportion of derelicts (so they now stand out more). But it does seem like you are far more likely to encounter them now than 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

yes, many people who have the means to get somewhere by car do just that it seems.

Apparently mental illness has simply risen in the US: 'Mental health disorders have risen in the United States. The increase is due to the rise in social media, the COVID-19 pandemic, and societal trends that have resulted in smaller family units and less community involvement.'

when is the last time you were on the T? kindly, you do not have "real world" observations. catch my drift? the media and the real world are sometimes quite different.

of course you could read stats and regurgitate, and get infuriated about things you do not even have to subject yourself to. I can almost guarantee you that as someone who is on the MBTA 4 times a week I have less anxiety about it than people reposting and writing their version of how bad it is.

why do you even read this thread then since you clearly think it's fake news or something?

I used to ride the T every day, twice a day, multiple lines, up until 2020. I personally never had much trouble other than rude people, some more angry than others. I never saw anyone getting beat up or assaulted but clearly it does happen. I rode it during rush hour, Im sure more unsavory activity happens later on in the evening or during the day when not as many people are on it.

Last Saturday. Kudos to you for being conditioned to this current reality, but will you "kindly" stop being in such denial?

Exactly. Because Mr. commutes back and forth at rush hour with his earbuds plugged in and totally oblivious to his surroundings, doesn't mean it's not happening.

thank you for keeping your ear to the streets. doing gods work out there. Sorry you had to navigate through this hellish landscape to get to your miserable destination. Care to share what trauma you had "real world" experience with on this frightful Saturday commute?
