Sounds like we agree about Westie. I’ve spent plenty of time in Dorchester and Rox and have never been harassed for being white.

No my point is that I have seen racism in Westie and seen racism in other neighborhoods. Do I think any neighborbood as a whole is racist, no. Not in 2022, anyway.

I think the majority of the city thinks Westie is racist, to be totally honest. Not the whole neighborhood it that goes without saying. So no need to say it. It’s a really really common thought and refrain about the neighborhood in general though.

I’m not sure the majority of people living in Boston today know much about west Roxbury at all. It’s pretty far out there and people forget it’s even part of the city.

West Roxbury has some bad apples who I’m sure might be racist but overall they have an educated professional population. I’ve heard the more educated people are the less likely they are to be racist.

If anyone in west Roxbury is racist it’s most like some older residents who have lived there forever. And I think those types tend to Just hate the BLM types and black people. I think people misunderstand hating BLM as being the same as hating black people. It’s not the same.

Naw. People around the country have come out against this guys from regular joes, to the news networks and political pundits. this gentleman in Chicago agrees- West Roxbury is racist. https://twitter.com/alexiosastext/st...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

I wouldn’t expect you to feel that way. Because you’re like you- a Boston area white moderate.

But other white propel and probably every non white person feel that way.

“I hate West Roxbury with a passion because of the stares I would get from other yt people as a hijabi. Of course someone would get mad over people calling out the bigots of plague the Boston metro area“
https://twitter.com/yallayalaura/sta...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

“ West Roxbury is one of the big reasons people will say Boston is racist. Kid who wrote this poem was too kind and probably only because he doesn’t hear what these people whisper to each other. When a child’s poem hurts your feelings you should take a good look in the mirror.” https://twitter.com/noanonymouse/sta...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

“ If you live in West Roxbury and this poem offends you to the point of demanding an apology from the school, you are the biggest piece of **** imaginable. It is literally describing West Roxbury.

Unchecked white racist rage like this leads to Buffalo in Boston real fast.” https://twitter.com/ingreaterboston/...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

“ West Roxbury is racist af and I’d argue they’re more racist than South Boston.

We all know it.

@MayorWu you gotta address this. The kid didn’t lie.” https://twitter.com/theesexi_lexi/st...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

“ As a Boston area native, I know West Roxbury well; this is a crystal clear ACCURATE representation of the so-called “culture” there. Bravo! To the student who wrote it; shame on the cowardly racists who whined & complained !!” https://twitter.com/himmingbirdg/sta...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

“ It’s kind of amazing that the whole world now knows West Roxbury in Boston is a racist Trumper enclave.
Amazing what having a tantrum over a child’s poem can do” https://twitter.com/detachedspork/st...NA21LEMWtHa3ZQ

Ironically this thread was showed to me by someone from New Jersey lol. It’s widely agreed upon, only a small minority of people would disagree.

West Roxbury perhaps fears their neighborhood will end up like mattapan or Hyde park. Can you blame them?

Hyde Park is really a fine neighborhood. It has some issues but it’s a good place that I enjoyed a lot more than Westie. By a wide margin.

But yes- you can absolutely blame people for being unwelcoming and/or racist. If that’s how you want to be in order to not be Mattapan, then don’t be offended when people notice and make mention of being racist.

It happens in towns too.

Do you have any specific examples of racism happening in west Roxbury you could provide ? Besides someone chanting about blue lives matter.

So apparently this neighborhood that went with Biden over Trump by a 40 point margin, is a Trumper enclave. And it's racist because...some dude from Chicago said so on Twitter. Most of the rest of the tweets sound like a bunch of high school kids venting (and clearly nobody with any life experience).

Of course I do. But not to me personally.

I won’t share them because it’s 2nd hand and
it’s not like if I share them you’re gonna be like “oh damn you’re right.” No use.
