I've been thinking about cities and iconography lately, and that led me to wonder- what is Boston's most iconic symbol? A few that come to mind include the Custom House Tower, Old State House, or the Zakim Bridge... even potentially the swan boats in the Common. However, not sure they really rise to the level of recognizability as other city symbols like the Empire State Building or Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe there aren't any. What do you think? Feel free to add images if you like!

Fenway Park maybe? The Citgo sign at Kenmore Square is also quite iconic as is the skyline with 200 Clarendon Street (formerly the John Hancock Tower) and Prudential Center in it. IMO the Zakim Bridge is too new and too short to be iconic, the Tobin Bridge beats it in that regard.

Good points, the Citgo sign & Hancock Tower did occur to me as well. Funny that one of our icons is an advertisement for an oil company haha. I like to think it now transcends its initial function!

The American Institute of Architects named City Hall as the greatest work of architecture in the city.

What about the current state house? Whether facing from the common or the Charles side, it's a center of focus for many Boston photos. The whole "city on a hill" thing.

What is even the deal with the Citgo sign? I get that it's been there for decades but Citgo's not even based in Boston

Harvard (Yard), while maybe not immediately reconizible from a photo, and not in Boston, is probably the most iconic Boston structure.

For an answer that's completely within the lines of the question, probably Fenway Park

Make way for ducklings statue is pretty famous

Boston Tea party boat. Bunker hill monument.

Ive always been pretty in awe of the castle at castle Island but it doesn't get much mention at all considering the millions of people that frequent there so often.
