And then there was this...

I respect free speech and the right to assemble for any group but the authorities ought to have had intelligence that such a march was taking place. They should have known that such a group would and could incite violence if agitated and that proper mechanisms should have been put in place to separate the marchers from onlookers. The City pretty much dropped the ball on this one and fortunately, aside from the one known incident in which that activist was assaulted and injured by the group, could have been a lot worse.

Unfortunately, this same group- in these same clothes- did this in Washington DC on the fourth of July in 2020.

Last year they were in Philadelphia for the 4th of July (they had even more people there 150-200 people)

No ones stopping it.

Peaceful marching is one thing. But as the Idaho incident last month proved, these guys were out to do considerable harm (averted).

Maybe the right to assembly could be taken for the day away as soon as you show up with shields, easily-weaponized flag poles and full face-covers.

The entire point of these marches is to provoke a reaction. It's straight out of the school bully playbook via the Westboro Baptist Church. Why do you think they come to typically liberal places like Boston or Philadelphia? The internal narrative they are trying to create is that liberal cities are biased against them and that they are the downtrodden.

Pre-emptively violating their right to assembly is exactly what they're looking for. Well, that and assault from upset locals. The best you can hope for is to watch them carefully, hope they don't do any harm to locals, hope the locals ignore them, and then be ready to pounce in the event that they do anything unquestionably illegal.

They're a mirror of the far left with a different political agenda. Period.

A white supremacist, aka hate crime, agenda. I suppose that's political, but it goes far deeper and both right/left should be condemning the agenda of such groups.

^Sounds correct. And I agree, there's a fine line in terms of not being too pre-emptive as to violate their 1A rights, unless there is a threat of violence. I'm not sure how the Coeur d'Alene incident, involving this same group, affected the perception.

As all should be condemning the hateful and often violent agendas of far left groups.
