That was my initial thought as well, especially with the follow-up reply.

why is this news
I would say it's newsworthy for exactly why it's being talked about here. It's first of all racist. Second of all if there was ever a party for just white people the ACLU would be involved and people would be fired.

It's poor taste, bad manners...but this is where we're at.

Of course you will, but while we are outraged by borderline racism towards white people you are expressing classic racism by this generalization. I am sure you do not like some "electeds of color" (this phrase will hunt me for some time almost like latinx). It is not difficult to be more specific.

Would it be news to you if Black politicians weren't supposed to receive an invitation to a White party?

The way you express yourself you are not much different than racists people you post about.

It was probably just intended as pandering. As a Harvard-educated suburban-reared Asian-American there's likely a pretty significant gap between her and many other minority Democrats with other backgrounds and life experience. This type of thing is meant to emphasize that she's 'one of them' i.e. the 'PoC vs white' paradigm suits her politically. Wealthy Asian Americans can be an awkward fit in the "rainbow coalition" of intersectional leftism.

Mayor Walsh and Mayor Menino would have fit in better with those folks than Mayor Wu, lol
