Just out of curiosity, if money was no object, where in CALIFORNIA would you live & why? (The only thing that's mandatory is it must be somewhere in CALIFORNIA.)

So far, I'd say a mansion by the beach, maybe in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, or San Diego. Maybe Pacific Palisades, Holmby Hills, or Bel Air. Now, I haven't been in Northern CA much, so I'd have to see what that has to offer too.

A nice but not pretentious home in the Monterey Bay area.

Easy one for me - mansion in any of the hillside and canyon communities north of sunset in west Los Angeles - the best of LA within minutes and none of the downsides.

Second choices would be Laguna Beach, Malibu, Palos Verdes, the hillside neighborhoods over Palo Alto like Atherton, and southern Marin towns like Belvedere or Mill Valley.

Beach communities are too crowded / public for my tastes, hills of Los Angeles offer exclusivity and privacy without having to be an hour away from the city - a very unique place if you can afford it.

I'd be out in the Santa Ynez Valley somewhere growing my own grapes and making my own wine. (Nude, of course! LOL)

I'd still live in a neighborhood on a medium sized lot in the Conejo Valley. My parents and wife's parents live in the area so we'd be close to them. I like the community and the weather. I'd want to be in a community with neighbors so my kids would have friends to play with. I wouldn't want a huge isolated lot for that reason. Maybe North Ranch.

Either a nice home on the west shore of Tahoe, or a really nice home up in the hills in the west side of Palmdale.

In fairy tales maybe, but geologists can provide a more realistic explanation.

I'd take a 3 level victorian home on a corner lot, in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco.
