So far, I'd say a mansion by the beach, maybe in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, or San Diego. Maybe Pacific Palisades, Holmby Hills, or Bel Air. Now, I haven't been in Northern CA much, so I'd have to see what that has to offer too.
Oregon.

A downtown or ocean-view home in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Or similar elsewhere on the Monterey Peninsula.

I could also settle for Saratoga.

If money were truly no object, I'd have a handful of different places to live; ideally, only one of them would be in CA, but I can play this game, too...

I'd like to have a good-sized place (~10,000ft²) on my own private beach either in La Jolla or Pacific Beach to serve as a weekend getaway, and/or a small designer loft in the Hollywood Hills if I wanted to be closer to some action.

Does the "money is no object" rule apply to all inclusive costs too? Property tax, utilities, maintenance? or just the initial price?

I couldn't agree more.

And don't forget, those of you who say "money can't buy happiness", that if unhappy, you could buy antidepressant drugs- out of pocket; you don't need no stinkin' health insurance because you're loaded- as well as have your shrink with you at all times, right there to remind you why you should be happy the very moment your face so much as registers anything short thereof.

And if that didn't work, a bungalow on the west side of Santa Cruz would be the cure-all.

Either Palm Springs or Palm Desert, or somewhere in the Central San Joaquin Valley. In the Valley, though, it's a better proximity to a lot of things I enjoy. And it wouldn't be a very big house. I would just want a single-level house with 3 bdrm/2 ba (or the 3rd being a family room), lots of good storage and closet space, on a good-sized lot. I do love Spanish-style houses.

At one time I would have picked San Francisco, but the cool weather and cost of living eventually changed my mind (and, no, even sudden wealth wouldn't lure me there now). Last time I visited it just didn't seem the same anymore.

Love Santa Cruz but I find the climate still too cool (although I'd have a little vacation cottage there, or maybe a smaller house on West Cliff). Same with Pismo Beach.
