Well, one of my choices was Beverly Hills...

*looks out window*

In the next few years, I'll probably move back to SF. It'll be a few before I'll be able to afford one of the old officer's houses on the Presidio but that's what I've got my sights on

Those are beautiful old homes. The officers of the Army and Navy used to live well!

Agreed! I have often walked past them telling myself: "if I was to live anywhere in a house in S.F., these would be it!"

I had no idea they were for sale. Does anyone have an idea of how much they go for?

I just noticed my comment after #89 was removed by the moderator. It was not mean or nasty. It was a call for manners. Are we to be censored here? Why the removal?

They, and the townhouses on Treasure Island that are occupied, aren't available for sale; they're still technically federal property, but maintained by a trust that leases them out. Here's their page: Residential Leasing - Presidio of San Francisco (http://www.presidio.gov/leasing/residentialleasing/ - broken link)

You can get smaller NCO apartment housing, 2bd/1ba, for in the 2k range, which isn't really that bad considering what a flat in that area typically goes for.

However, those gorgeous brick or wraparound-porch officer's homes go for about 10 to 12k/mo...
Infantry Terrace - Presidio of San Francisco (http://www.presidio.gov/leasing/residentialleasing/neighborhoods/infantryterrace/ - broken link)
Funston Avenue - Presidio of San Francisco (http://www.presidio.gov/leasing/residentialleasing/neighborhoods/funston/ - broken link)

Oh, and on that tip... I did live in a townhouse on Treasure Island that had a view of SF's Eastern Shore from the upper floor bedroom windows. I loved it. TI is definitely odd and surreal; it reminds me greatly of my childhood on military bases... I'd consider moving back there as well, though phone receptions sucks quite badly.
