Interesting series of comments here today on this:

We have companies and individuals sitting on billions because nobody has the vision or cojones to do big things. We should be doing hundreds of these kinds of projects regardless of their short term payback. Time to put America back to work and quit the whining.
Entirely, 110% correct thinking for those interested in "growing" an economy back to health.

The question is how much more energy efficient is it to move masses of people in block-units as compared to individuals driving their cars ... and is a train more easily managed, and energy efficient, and cheaper to operate than airplanes? And the answers are: yes, HSR is easier and more efficient than individual travel and than air travel over short distances.

Widening I-5 is nuts. It is equally, if not more, expensive [to create lanes to move the same numbers as potential train passengers] ... and expanding freeways never has proven to reduce congestion -- rather it increases use.

Educating the population is no more valuable than their mobility once educated. What's the point of an educated society stuck in gridlock?

You don't?

More evidence that most folks don't have a clue as to how money is created in our modern system of central banking -- and how that moves economies. New money isn't mined gold in a vault. New money is created at the push of a button as credit -- which is synonymous with debt. Debt IS our new "gold" ... and it is held by banks on their computers. None of it is material product or production. "Kicking the can down the road" and "pulling out a cash advance" (creating debt) "to pay another bill" is exactly how our economy thrives. It is not possible to pay off all the debt because there is more debt than actual money ... about 9x more debt than actual cash money reserves ... so new money is created to issue as credit: for more new debt. And the bankers take the interest earnings.

There is no way out of this anymore. Welcome to the New Feudalist society. You, we, are all slaves to the banks. And yet we function this way fine, more or less. The banks and major industries have more "money" than god, at this point, and the only way it flows is by borrowing more and "kicking the can down the road" and "pulling out cash advances to pay" for the future.

And this is how we are going to "pay for that war", yes. And how we are going to "pay" for pensions and all infrastructure to support the ever evolving economy that we rely on to feed our families. We work for the man ... he pays us in chits good at the company store ... we go there to buy our goods with credit chits good only at his store ... and we never get out of debt because it isn't how the system is structured.

Pretty clever of those bankers, huh? Wish you were smart like thems guys is? I don't ... but I can live in spite of it.

Yeah. Y'all eat each other's faces there. Your main purpose is to supply the rest of the country with pain meds for street consumption. Oh, and the Chinese like you for building lots of condos.

Highest point in Florida is 365 feet, in florida skiing sucks, white water Kayaking sucks, rock climbing sucks, having a car that handles well on twisty roads would be waste of money.
