Asked around and surprised to learn just about everyone has online or automatic payments.

No one could say without having to go online to check.

I'm still snail mail and check.

We have autopay for the Electric but pay for the gas. Southern California Gas has a walk up kiosk at their Oxnard payment location. You present your bill, it is scanned and all your information is brought up on the screen. Then you just enter how much you are paying and slide in the check or cash into the machine. I think I keep it like that because the kids seem to like the machine. LOL Although we pay with auto pay for our SCE bill they still send a paper statement. I never opted out of the paper statement.

Redding Utilities can also be paid online. I also get my paper statement. My driver's license still has my Santa Clara address, and it seems I'm forever having to prove my residency here for various benefits, and they will accept a Redding utility bill.

In Orange County we have Southern California Edison - our Dec bill was $285. Around $50 more than previous months, thinking it's because of xmas lights? When we use the a/c sparingly in the summer (kept around 79-80) our bill shot up $200 more. Our house is a 2-story, big windows facing south/west, 3200 sqft.

We do have a lot of electronics, and I really should be turning my computer off at night.. Also have an electric dryer and dishwasher. I've now started to not use the "heated dry" option on the DW, let's see what that does to our bills.

The appliances in the house are probably around 10 years old or so, and there is a fridge in the garage that is older that my husband insists on using, and he refuses to believe that it what is eating up our electric bills. We also had added some outdoor lighting, so that didn't help the bills, either. Nor does the fountain in the front or the spa in the back.

Gas bill through Southern California Gas was $57. Previous bills were $15-$20. Only change was putting the heat on, and we kept it around 68-70 degrees. Having lived in FL for the previous 17 years, that weather we had here was COLD to me.

Still was a huge shock for us compared to our FL energy bills. My husband's boss' wife tried to tell us that her electric bills in the summer were $1000/month, and I thought she was exaggerating. We'll probably look into solar this year.

Nope, had three, just went down to two. But it's our absurdly low rent that allows for some extravagances, but $500+ is ridiculous.

Mine was $50 for my 1 bedroom condo in SF (I only pay for electricity as everything else is covered in my HOA payment).

$500+ is insane for SJ.

I pay $350+, but I'm up in the SC mountains with a 3000 sq/ft high ceiling house and it gets really cold up here too boot. I also run a ton of electronics (NAS, HTPC, large TV's and multiple computers) so my load is pretty high.

I'd get a wattsup meter (or the like) and see what is drawing so darn much. There's gotta be a way to get that down.

I paid $32 for electricity from SDG&E for a 950sq ft, 2 bedroom condo in San Diego. I haven't had to use the heater at all. Usually my bill is around $25 but I had guests staying over. HOA pays for water and trash collection.
