Okay, I'm going to say something I don't like about Crescent City. The wind! It's driving me batty. Winter here means wind that will knock you over. 35 mph with 50 mph gusts are common this time of year.

I know, I know, it ain't too hot and it ain't snowin'.... but I'm feeling like those prairie women who lost their minds because of the wind LOL!

On a fun note, I learned the difference between crows and ravens. Lots of ravens around. Very cool, smart birds. They're bigger than crows and their tails are shaped like a "V" whereas crows are smaller and their tail feathers are the same length, so they look bobbed off straight.

I love watching the ravens just hover in the air in the wind. When it's not gusting 50 mph that is.

That's a good plan Roaddog. I agree with you in that the Crescent City area just feels like home to us as well. But we are hoping to call it home long before we retire. We're just waiting for a few things to resolve, which should be 2-4 years, and then hopefully in our new home of Crescent City, or thereabout.

I think pretty much all the beach areas in California are windy.

When we were teens, we played & swam/fished/surfed by Carmel/Monterey/Seaside/Marina beaches. (It was Windy/Cold)........The wind was especiially cold in the winter. There were many enthusiasts who enjoyed Hang Gliding at Marina Beach.

For years we spent a lot of time camping/fishing around the Santa Nella area. At San Luis O'Neill Forebay, Delta/Mendota canal, California Aqueduct, San Joaquin River, CA Delta, Camanche Lake, etc. The wind felt very good in the summer with over 100 temps. The wind gusts were 50-60 mph or thereabouts. The wind felt very bone chilling cold in the winter. At the O'Neill Forebay many enjoyed Wind Surfing, in the summer.

When we were planning to move to Oregon, we specifically looked for a mountainous area where there wasn't much wind. We found our place surrounded/protected by mountains....

I thought I'd share something that made me kind of giggle, thinking of people planning to move to Crescent City...

I went with a neighbor to the senior lunch at the Lucky 7 Casino on a Thursday, which was really nice by the way. Don't bother with the one at the Elk Valley Casino - it's funky. But, the Lucky 7 Casino is really nice and they serve you in the cafe. We could even see the ocean, and they actually serve you - as opposed to Elk Valley, where they let you go through a buffet line in a windowless conference room...

Anyway, I don't gamble, but we thought we'd try out the cheap senior lunch days. To get the best price, you first go to the member services desk and get a club card. So, we're chatting with the lady who is getting us our club card and she asks us where we're from and why we moved to CC. Both of us are seniors who are from CA, and moved to CC from a different part of CA because it's affordable and by the ocean.

This woman moved to CC from Medford, OR, and started complaining that she can't buy a house in CC because of all of the rich Californians who are moving to CC and running up the price of real estate.

I didn't say anything but I thought it was hilarious. People in OR or WA or wherever, love to hate Californians for moving to their state and driving up the price of real estate. And she's so used to complaining about that, that she wasn't realizing that within CA, we are the locals simply moving within our state - and she is the outsider from another state creating more competition for the real estate.

Anyway, some of you Californians will understand the hilarious irony in that. Heck, she's also taking someone's job! It's pretty funny when the CA haters actually move to CA and then still hate on Californians for making their lives difficult - in California.

If you think it's windy now, just wait until spring lol. From about April through mid to late June, if the sun's out, it's windy. There are exceptions of course and the gorgeous spring days make up for it, but yeah, get ready for it.

I remember a couple years ago my wife (then fiancee) and I went for a hike along the Lost Coast to the Punta Gorda Lighthouse in like April or May and the winds were blowing at a sustained speed of around 40MPH with gusts around 50 MPH

Personally I don't mind the winds associated with winter storms, and I love the way they come blasting in off the ocean. Winter is probably the most interesting time of year here in terms of weather because of the different types of storms that come ashore (atmospheric river, hard and heavy, cold fronts from the north, warm fronts from the south, bands of showers, etc.), and as someone interested in weather it really makes up for the cold and the dark of winter which I hate.

Anyway, I'm kind of rambling at this point, but yeah, here's your warning: prepare for much more wind in spring.

Yeah, I actually know about the wind. I moved here in November 2014, so I've been through it. But, like you say, it's sunny. I would just go to the woods on those days. And watch out for falling limbs :-)

Perhaps, take a ride over to Lake Selmac, off 199, in Selma. It's beautiful there & usually calm & warmer...some good fishing also.....
