Actually in most states, the wait persons that receive tips, are paid considerably less than minimum wages, as allowed by law. Some with tips included will not receive more than minimum wages.

You seem to have bought into the fallacy that $15/hr is a king's ransom. Let's do some basic math:

Let's say a server works 40/hr a week @ $15/hr. That's $600 a week or roughly $2,400 a month. Now, thats making some assumptions. First off, as of now very few if any servers are even making that wage but let's play along and say that due to minimum wage increase that they get that. Also, in the restaurant industry it can be very hard to get 40/hr a week due to scheduling quirks, but again, let's play along.

$2,400 may sound ok, but that is before the government takes its cut. Assume if the worker claims zero exemptions on their W-4 to ensure they owe nothing come tax day. Kiss 30% goodbye. So that takes us down to a monthly base wage of close to $1,700. Considering that a one bedroom apt. in most of the LA area is close to that anyway, there is precious little money left for food, clothing, or emergncies. Forget about trying to save anything.

Most servers live off their tips and pay expenses with their salary. Tipping allows them to have a few bucks in their pockets. There's nothing wrong with that. Stop acting as though these are a bunch of dirty moochers. They're just trying to scrape by.

A job doesn't not entitle one to a social contract with customers to pay them extra so they don't have to scrape by.

A job is an agreement between an employee and employer to exchange labor for a check. That is it.

The more minimum wage goes up the less I will tip as I, as the customer, is paying for their increase in wage through increased food prices.

I tip according to service, period. Standard no frills- 10%. Above average-15%. Excellent- 20%. Outstanding-skies the limit and how much I've had to drink.

I also deduct in 5% increments from 10% from crappy down to no service. Really **** me off and im in your face tossing you a quarter.

Example: many times in my many decades of adult life I have been comped free meals for one reason or another. One time the wait and hospitality staff of a particular restaurant was so good and our experience so enjoyable I gave them the entire price of the comped meals. Over $200 bucks.

On the opposite end of the spectrum I've left whatever the coin change was from the bill on a tip with a nasty note. Those times I was paying with a credit card I made it a point to talk with the manager and warn them that there better not be any extra charges on my account because I am not leaving a tip and if there is I would be filing a police report for fraud charges against my waiter and them. Never had an issue.

.
thank God someone understands what "wage" means.
It is between the employer and the employee. End of story. Whether it is $1 an hour or $400/hour it is none of my business.
