People like California for many reasons, so the answer is different. If you like SoCal people, (which I think are mean, even they claim they are liberal and anti-racist, they are actually), maybe try Austin, Denver, Portland, or Seattle? If you like the weather maybe the closest thing is outskirt towns of LA or Sacramento? If you like the big city feeling maybe Boston or NYC or Miami is for you.

Good point AND now we have skeeters here. Another check mark against staying. We never had blood suckers until about three years ago.
