Take socialism for example, it is considered a terrible evil by the emotors. Medicare 44 years ago was called socialist and called the beginning of the end for capitalism, by the emotors. Today we see it works.

America ranks 24th in the world for the quality of its healthcare, the top rank countries are socialist.
America is out ranked on most indicators of quality of life by the socialist countries. To continue to think socialism is some sort of evil, inspite of the evidence to the contrary is illogical, non rational. It indicates that the believer, the emotor has not looked at the facts, but is responding emotionally.

The most socialist entity in the US government is the US military. I myself depend solely on socialist medical care, the VA. I do not see anyone in the VA hospital complaining about government healthcare.

These "howling emotors" are wrong, reading a few books would be a start.
I hope the doctors at the VA are able to help you with your projection issues.

Now is the time to start looking into where you may want to move. If you are able buy your land now and build when you retire lots of good deals out there.
The best thing we ever did was move out of california.

Bye.
Well, if you really wanted to ignore me you would have just ignored me.
But thanks for not ignoring me and putting me on your ignore list and letting me know that you're going to ignore me.
It's not "fringe" to realize that freedom, in the true sense of the word, does not involve being selfish and uncaring.
We are all interconnected and we live on a planet with limited natural resources that will not continue to sustain generations to come if we don't take care of it.
It's just common sense.
Hi.

The tragedy is actually unfolding all around us ... you can pretend it's not more easily somewhere else i suppose.
Happy Trails to you.
Your "tragedy" is not just happening in California but it's heightened here for a variety of reasons .... one obvious reason being ... too many people!
It's not easy to ignore the dilemma here as it's so overt and "in your face".
Maybe if enough people who don't give a c- - - - about the land leave, California will have a "re-birth" and become a sanctuary for all who realize that the true gift of this place is the natural environment and the power of its nature.
All those who want to limit their contact with it and hide within their illusion of protection ("they were poisoned with protection"), can go elsewhere and leave the real stuff, ie; nature (and cosmos), for those who want to truly engage with it (aren't afraid of it) and be here in real freedom ... which includes (but is not limited to) freedom from the insanity of the madding crowd with all its attachments to the meaninglessness and vapidity and destructiveness of the dominant culture.
But i'm just California dreamin.
Oh well.
(how's that for "fringe" Crownvic? )

The other thing to keep in mind -- if you already have an energy guzzling TV, no one is going to take it away from you. Moreover, newer model plasmas and LCDs that are currently in production are becoming more and more energy efficient. I think the hope here is that California will lead the nation in convincing the TV manufacturers to start making more energy efficient TVs across the board (which they clearly have the technology to do). California has been a leader and used its financial clout to effect changes like this before. I applaud the effort here. If the law passes, and you find yourself buying a big screen TV in five years you can rest assured that it will consume less energy, which will in turn reduce the electricity bill that you pay with money from your OWN pocket.
How dare you expose the LIE that started this thread? You must be some kind of communist.

Where did you move from and to?

I've lived in several other states and traveled in most, so I have a pretty good idea where I will find what I'm looking for. But my problem is that I was out of work for a long time and am in a recovery mode financially. Wherever I go, I will have to rent - at least for a while.

I'm not passionate about TV other than for my DVDs. Commercial television is a wasteland.

But what I am passionate about is individual freedom and I will fight to the death against the oppression of left wing environmental extremists.

So you're all for a supporting an individual's rights to open a meth lab next door no matter the danger it presents to the general public?

Power consumption is a serious issue in CA. There's a lot of people all using electricity. Ever experienced a brownout? It's worse than a blackout because instead of just shutting down, electronic devices continue to operate but tend to overheat when they can't get the amperage they crave. They cause fires. Ever stood and watched helplessly as a fire moved closer and closer to your home? I've seen people try to wet their roofs with a garden hose but when there's a high water demand, they can't get enough water to save a pot of flowers.

Absolute personal freedom is dandy if you live alone out in the middle of nowhere where your actions have little if any affect on others but if you choose to live in a populated area, there needs to be rules. People can't simply do whatever they please with no regard for others.

Keep on burning fossil fuel at will. We won't be out for another 40 years and it'll be your children's problem to deal with. Right now as the supply slowly drops it's ok because we still have a large supply of young men to send into the grinder of an oil war. You just keep on using as much as you can and feel good about yourself and your personal freedom to waste.

As for your alleged willingness to fight and die for your TV set, I somehow suspect that if that time ever arose, you'd manage to find a way to survive with a LCD screen instead. There are lots of tough people on the Internet. I'm amazed at how many are willing to die for this or that yet when push comes to shove, few are up for the moment.
