Sigh.

In the end, this thread has done nothing to change my mind that guns ARE the issue.

Well isn't it funny "chuckling back at you here" that any time I ask on CD WHY Americans want to/need to own guns, the answer is always "for protection." Doesn't having protection for one's self give you a feeling of safety? Protection from whom?

Yourselves. That's who.

He sounds like an" evangelist" advocating the right to bear arms, and we all know what most evangelists are like. Fire and brimstone and blah, blah, blah.

But I must add, that IF things don't change for gun laws, then what this man has suggested might very well be the only solution.

The costs of arming all the schools, pta meetings, etc, would be staggering but at least kids might feel safe to go to school, not that this will stop a gunman or crazed kid from getting a few rounds off before the armed security takes them down.

Is that really the answer you always get? An awful lot of Americans have guns because they find them an enjoyable hobby. Tooling around with guns and going to the shooting range is fun.

My city hasn't had a murder of any kind for 8 years. It's one of the safest cities in the entire country. We don't have guns "for protection." There are many, many gun-owners like us, so please don't attempt to speak for all Americans.

We have a lot of family and friends who live in Germany. When they visit, you might think they would be terrified to see a gun, but actually almost without exception they love to go to the shooting range and request it specifically. Why? Because they are concerned about protection? No, because it's fun!

So in some cases it's highly possible that people who aren't fitting in with the conventional model of success can sometimes go off the rails.

In other words the Canadian people are a lot more civilized than the American people are.

Having anyone entering a school go through a metal detector would more effective and cheaper.

Very little will happen or change Americas obsession with easily obtained guns, in the very near future we will be talking about the next mass shooting. its the nature of the beast in the USA.
