I hope that the Canadian immigration people take the time to weed out some of the far right fascists that are to be found in Ukrainian "volunteer units ". A quick search on you tube will yield lots of examples . Unfortunately Ukraine has allowed a number of American fascist types ( who are wanted by the US Government ), to set up in their country.

This is wonderful. A thread where we can focus on a crisis of freedom in the Ukraine without veering into domestic political squabbles. We can talk about the heroes we are learning about and everything else that unites us. I really hope that the Americans find a way to put aside their differences and speak as one voice. Until then, this is where I’ll post on this forum; where we can focus on the real heroes and bad guys in this tragedy.

Slava Ukraini!

I was just watching a video on the CBC website. A reporter said that the fast tracking of applications will focus on Ukrainians with significant ties to Canada e.g. have family here. There are a lot of Canadians with family connections in Ukraine.

Former Guelph United goalkeeper now preparing for battle in Ukraine
Quote:
“When I went to the military base to enlist there were lineups in which I had to wait almost two hours,” said Artemenko. “I got lucky because I came pretty early, so I didn't have to wait that long. But once I walked out the lineups were almost two or three hours long.”

As for why people are waiting to line up, Artemenko said it is as simple as people wanting to protect their families. "There is absolutely no fear in the crowd," said Artemenko. "If you were to walk in here you would not be able to tell, you would not be able to smell or see fear whatsoever. You feel pride."

Feds seek to fast-track LNG project amid Ukraine attack

Quote:
The head of Calgary-based natural gas producer Pieridae Energy Ltd. said he’s fielding inquiries from the federal government over how the company’s proposed Goldboro liquefied natural gas (LNG) project could be completed quicker than anticipated.
Quote:
The Goldboro LNG project has already been significantly scaled down from its original proposal. Originally envisioned as an onshore LNG export facility in Goldboro, N.S., the project is now being developed as floating facility off the coast of Nova Scotia.

The new, revamped project is expected to process 2.5 million metric tonnes of natural gas annually and cost roughly $2 billion. The original facility was estimated to cost as much as $10 billion.

CBC's 2015 profile on Putin. I know 2 people who have met him and both came away saying he was an evil man.

From perogies to politics, Ukrainians have made an indelible mark on Manitoba's identity
Quote:
In Canada, which has the second-largest Ukrainian diaspora group in the world after Russia, Manitoba has the largest proportion of people who identify as Ukrainian with more than 180,000 people. {Manitoba’s population is 1.38M}
FIRST WAVE:
Quote:
The first ethnic Ukrainians arrived in Manitoba from what were then provinces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1890s, although other groups from what would eventually become known as the country of Ukraine, such as Mennonites, began arriving decades earlier.
*snip*
The first Ukrainian family came to Manitoba in 1891 and settled on a farm near Gretna, where many Mennonites who spoke the Ukrainian language already lived
SECOND WAVE, between the two World Wars:
Quote:
Whereas people in the first wave settled primarily on the land, the second wave brought large numbers of Ukrainian-Canadians to the cities, where they established many of their own cultural and political organizations.
THIRD WAVE:
Quote:
The third wave of Ukrainian migration, roughly between the end of the Second World War and the early 1960s, brought a large number of educated members of the Ukrainian intelligentsia fleeing the Soviet Union.
*snip*
they contributed greatly to the cultural, artistic and political life of Manitoba, and helped to develop the country's policy of multiculturalism.
FOURTH WAVE, after 1991:
Quote:
They brought with them diverse skills. Many of them, including Malyk, work as information technology specialists.
FIFTH WAVE?
Quote:
began after the Maidan uprising in 2014 that overthrew a Russian-backed regime and ushered in a more Western-oriented government.

Those Truckers would be the first ones defending Canada with Arms if ever attacked.

While Trudeau caught the 1st plane out of the country.

For those who have Netflix…if you haven’t watched ‘Winter on Fire,’ do yourself a favor. It is an amazing, compelling documentary that gives insight into the spirit of the Ukrainian people and why they will NEVER let Russia occupy them again without making them pay in blood for every inch.

I love the Russian people and have many friends who are Russian expats living and working here in Canada. I don’t know any of them who support Putin and his “aktion” - to apply the Nazi term for this kind of crime. They all stand with Ukraine, against Putin, and insist that the Russian people mostly feel the same. Let’s not forget that they are also victims in this terrible war of aggression.

Slava Ukraini!

How many years have you ever lived in Canada, living amongst Canadians?
