I don't know how so many brave ladies shave their hair, today was very traumatic for me. I had my second chemo on Thursday and was just taking it easy this weekend. I could feel hairs pulling loose all weekend, everytime I turned my head I could feel like someone was pulling strand after strand. What a mess I had, my hair was matted all over the back of my head, I had to cut out huge clumps, not to mention how much came out with the brushing. I knew going bald was part of this but the shock of actually seeing it has sent me right over the edge. This picture was taken three days ago.
I'm sorry about your experience, and hope that you'll soon see good progress with your treatment.
Sometimes, unfortunately, hurt comes before healing. Again, I'm sorry.
This probably sounds old and flimsy, but have you considered wearing some beautiful scarfs and accessorizing them with earrings? How do you feel about wigs? It may be too soon to consider these things, but it may help to look as attractive as possible when you're up to it.
This must be extremely traumatic for you. Talk to your doctor and any understanding, TRUE friends/family members about it. You'll probably feel better.
I heard that cancer support groups can be pretty helpful, too.
You may not be ready to do ANYTHING just yet, but whenever you are, there's resources to help you through this.

You're right; it's awful, no matter how much we're warned, what people have told us or what we read. I remember being stunned, look at all the clumps of hair on the shower floor. It is definitely not something anyone is prepared for. Sending support your way!!
I just got the call. My brother, not even 50 yet, with a 15 year old, and one in collge, has kidney cancer. My cousin, age 55, died just a month ago from pancreatic cancer. Not one person in my circle of friends, co-workers, etc. is untouched by someone in their prime, in thier circle of family/friends, being cut down by this disease.
asitshouldbe, I am so sorry. You are braver than me, I shaved my head as I knew I would not be able to bear watching it fall out. Our hair is such a huge piece of our identity. I feel like cancer tries to take away pieces of who we are... gotta keep fighting it, right?
montanamom, so sorry about your brother, and your cousin. That's rough.
I know, if it were me, I would shave my head, rather than watch it gradually fall out. Everyone has to do what is best for them. Good luck, this nightmare will soon be over for you.

What in the H*** is going on?!
I am so sorry for you and your family.
You're right; cancer has hit so many folks.
What is going on? Well, whatever is in food, air, and water is what causes cells to go crazy and abnormally multiply. That's my opinion. You don't even have to be a smoker to get lung cancer, either (of course). One can get it from radon (something that's in millions of houses - and probably in the air), asbestos, and who knows where else.
It's toxins in the food, water, and air that have things so screwed up; MAN-MADE toxins, imho.

My dr. went to a conference and she said it's become an epidemic so bad they can't stay ahead of it, woman in their 20's with breast cancer??? It's crazy!

and I wonder if there is any reason that can be attributed to the rise in cancer among younger women? It will be interesting to follow the studies.
I heard that everyone has cancer cells in their body.
Cancer cells LOVE sugar; it makes them multiply like crazy. I also heard that cancer cells hate fat. Huh? Then why can colorectal cancer be caused by eating lots of fatty foods?
There are some foods (fruits and veggies) that could hinder or slow down cancer cell multiplication.
What concerns me is what is added to the fruits and veggies to make them big and look so appetizing. Is it carcinogens?
Also, I think air and water are full of carcinogens.
So what do you do? Eat healthy (sorry for the simplistic answer).
All of the above is what I heard on a radio show. Also, lots has been written about maintaining a diet healthy in fruits and veggies, of course.
Sometimes I think that no matter what you do, cancer is sometimes unavoidable (hate to say ...).
But we can lessen the chances of occurrence, probably.
