Very sad...sorry to read this.
I wouldn't recommend anyone take a kitten to the vet for deworming or fleas. Diotamachious earth does all of that, and it's not terribly toxic like the stuff the vets use.
I've rescued many many little felines over the years, and rarely have I taken one to the vet...only when they are spayed or neutered...my cats always live to very good old ages....no vets...no shots..no checkups.
