Using a broad definition like that - the member of the citydata forum are a cult, your family is a cult, you and your coworkers belong to a cult.
No, I think it's clear what we are saying, using the common usage of the term "cult":
The Manson family is a cult, the Hindu faith is not.
Jim Jones led a cult, The Pope does not.
If that isn't clear to you, the differences, then you have other issues beyond the scope of this discussion. Is Scientology bizzare enough, "out there" enough, and controlling enough, to be labeled a cult? Well that is subject to argument, but it's a valid argument.
The word cult usually deals with religion or the worship of a thing, person, etc. I would not call my family a cult or CD forum cult.
Religion is a cult since the majority of them want their followers to kill, hate, rape, etc for their "GOD". Every religion tries to control the life and viewpoint of its followers.
Scientology is bizzare but so is every other religion.

HAHA, OK just wanted to get the real intent of your post out. Just use this easy to fill in form, interchangable for any collective group of 2 or more people: "FILL IN BLANK" is a cult since the majority of them want their followers to kill, hate, rape, etc for their "FILL IN BLANK".
I watched that interview and you are right, he is very unbalanced. I had a very hard time trying to follow what he was saying. One minute in was very serious then he would break into a hysterical laugh and then get serious again. He is very passionate about his Scientology belief. Imo, I get the feeling that he thinks he's a mini God.

I noticed this too. Plus his "Megawatt" smile is just plain creepy. A constant toothy smile every second is not normal. If I hit the powerball and got to go to Hawaii with Kat Dennings and Charlize theron in the same day at the same time i would not even be smiling like that. He's a megalomaniac for sure. Which is why jumping up and down on the couch was not a big deal for him-He's Tom Cruise. If he does it it's normal.

It will pay you what he is receiving you may smile like that...
I remember his view on the existence of post partum depression...that's ignorance for you..I kept hoping Katie wasn't gonna suffer from it after having Suri, and then that silent birth crapola...he needs to pass a basketball through his penis quietly!!
I'm sure Katie got good advice from her father (who is a lawyer) on the best way to go about this divorce thing. Tom has $$$ to fight her, but he also has to be careful lest some dirt come out that he has taken great pains to hide over the years. He'll have to figure out if fighting for control of Suri's 'programming' is worth both the cost and the risk to his Hollywood reputation. Frankly, I've always wondered if he is even the bio-dad of Suri. Suri looks like an absolute clone of her mom. Imagine if he wasn't the sperm donor and THAT truth came out!
Either way, they entered this 5 yr contract, and part of exiting the deal should be the minimization of any negative consequences on the child and the freedom for the child to be raised away from/outside of $cientology. If Katie made no provision for that in her contract, well.... oops.
Only Scientologists or people who don't know much about the 'religion' would say Scientology is not a cult. There's a reason it's not recognised as a religious or charitable organisation in many countries around the world (such as the UK, Canada, Russia, Germany, Mexico, France, just to name a few) and therefore isn't tax-exempt in these countries - which was all the 'Church' was after when it declared itself a religion. Their beliefs regarding mental illness and 'suppressive persons' are outright dangerous.
