RIP indeed. When I was young, a rather popular show of his was "The Saint" (which I did not care for, being so young). I read that while The Saint made him very popular overseas, not so much in America, which may have been one reason he accepting becoming the third Bond.
Mr. Moore was, I always thought, a good James Bond, although some of the films became silly (the Jaws character, for instance). Yet, he did not write or direct the films.
I always enjoyed listening to him talk. He would tell good stories, and he had a marvelous voice.
Moore first became famous to Americans through some television shows. He starred in "Ivanhoe", "Maverick", and "The Professionals" in addition to "The Saint".
Oh Man. Roger Moore is what got me into Bond. I was three when he started with Live and Let Die but my earliest memory of Bond was seeing The Spy Who Loved Me in the theater when I was seven. To this day because of that he remains my favorite Bond.
I knew intellectually that my childhood heroes would die as we all age, but it's been happening far too often in recent years.
