It does matter what everyone thinks, except perhaps you're opinion if you feel that way. And the law is about control, it's not about what's right. So yes, forget the law in many cases. And it's just like the American legal system to drum up charges. Polanski deserves to be free of that mess, and so does the woman.

Are saying that Polanski was facing false charges?
I think you and TKramer made it quite clear that molesting a child to you is considered nothing but a "mess" and should be forgotten.

It might not be optimal, but if it doesn't affect me, why should I care? If it does affect me, why should anybody else care? People ought to mind their OWN business, not someone else's.
There's a huge difference between minding your own business (ie who cares what the neighbor is having for dinner or how much money they make) and not caring if other people (especially children) are being abused or victimized. That is everyone's business.

Not mine. I don't have any interest in kids. At all. And when I was abused, it was no one's business then either. In my case, people actually managed not to stick their noses in...and the only person affected dealt with it.

How do kids "deal with" being abused? When someone is mistreated against his/her will and can't properly defend him/herself, it is society's business, no matter what individuals care about. Children lack full autonomy (ie are dependent on adult people and their bodies and mind are still developing) and are easy to abuse. That's why society has to be particularly concerned when a child is involved. That you and I couldn't care less about kids has zero importance.

Child abusers rarely stop with one victim. Maybe if someone stepped in before you were abused, this might not have happened to you?
Should have been aborted, since they obviously didn't want me to begin with. Instead, I learned to fight back.
