You really think a man who would drug, rape, and sodomize a young girl is not a threat to society? I find it hard to believe a man who is capable of that is harmless. Time has only shown that he hasn't been caught again.
Who knows what passes for morality in France now--based on the response of officials.
Interesting that you have the word "victim" in quotation marks...I'm guessing you are doubting the drugged, and raped 13 y.o. child was actually a victim?
The word is in quotations because I was using it as general terminology. Not to undermine the plight of anyone who has been victimized.
Our justice system, here and abroad, is flawed - as "flawed" as humans themselves. There will always be gray areas, disputes over how cases should be handled, and no perfect fixes. The best you can do is to protect what's yours, and be a decent person yourself whatever you deem that to be. I'm pretty sure some of the posters here are mothers with young daughters, so I can understand why the Polanski story would strike a cord with them, I have a young daughter myself, and having your child in a similar situation would not be cool at all. But as I said before, every case is different. That's what written laws have trouble handling, and why existing laws are always being rewritten.Time has shown that the subjects directly involved in the case at hand, are over it. And so should everyone else be.
As far as Woody Allen goes, he ended up marrying his step daughter, who I reckon is happy with, and fully responsible for her own decisions. Hey, if love happens to come in an unconventional package, it's still love.

So I'm guessing you'd be just as supportive if it was "Father Polanski" and the victim was a 13 y.o. boy....?
I agree that more people need to mind their own business but....when it comes to molesting kids and rape and such, we have to step in and punish the perp...I don't care what a horrible past he's had...he was the adult.

Interestingly....apparently the settlement he reached with the victim (in 1993) was for $500K...but there was a 2 year struggle to get him to actually pay it and it still isn't clear whether he ever did....what a scum...No wonder the victim just wants it to be over. HE has ensured this has drug on and on and on by his own actions...
